I already knew Dark Horse was going to publish POP Wonderland books since this summer. I was waiting for wanting other items to get the free shipping fees on Amazon
I have received this week Thumbelina and Little Red Riding Hood books. I am really glad. Here are few lines about them

J’avais appris cet été que Dark Horse publierai les livres de POP wonderland. J’attendais d’avoir plusieurs produits à commander sur Amazon pour amortir les frais de port de ma commande
J’ai reçu cette semaine les livres de Thumbelina (La Petite Poucette) et de Little Red Riding Hood (Le Petit Chaperon rouge). Je suis plutôt satisfait. Voici mes impressions.

About the POP Wonderland serie / le concept de POP Wonderland.
The project began in 2006 in Japan: the idea was to adapt Westerner tales into illustrated story (Japanese language). Dark Horse publishes the same books in English language. There is a chain where the culture does a kind of to and fro movement:

About POP / l’illustrateur : POP
One of the most interesting thing about this books is the fact that POP illustrated them: a rounded chara-design that finally makes something very kawaii. Insofar as children often appear in the tales, POP’s style becomes loli. It is not the first time because he drawn for Moetan.
This specific touch is really recognizable: for example, among all the artists who took part in Headphone Girls: A Pictorial Book, I easily found out which pic was made by POP

L’intérêt principal de ces livres réside dans le fait qu’ils sont illustrés par POP: un chara-design aux lignes très arrondies (rondelet) qui donne au final un aspect très kawaii. Dans la mesure où ces contes mettent en scène des enfants, le style de POP devient très loli. Mais ce n’est pas la première fois puisque POP avait notamment participé à Moetan.
Ce style particulier est très reconnaissable : par exemple parmi les nombreux artistes ayant participé au projet Headphone Girls: A Pictorial Book, je n’ai pas eu de mal à reconnaître son illustration:

As I am concerned, I discovered the POP Wonderland serie and POP’s touch by doing researches after having bought the Akazukin (Little Red Riding Hood) PVC figure. At that time, I renounced to buy this books because I do not understand Japanese.

En ce qui me concerne, j’ai connu l’existence de cette série et découvert le style de POP en me renseignant sur la figurine d’Akazukin (le petit chaperon rouge) que j’avais achetée. A l’époque, j’avais renoncé à l’achat des livres illustrés en japonais, n’étant pas japanophone.

Little Red Riding Hood book / Le livre du petit Chaperon rouge.
I will write a few comments only about the Little Red Riding Hood book because it is the story that I know the best. Nevertheless I guess this remarks can be applied generally for the whole book serie.
Je vais écrire quelques commentaires sur le livre du petit chaperon rouge, car il s’agit de l’histoire que je connais le mieux par rapport à la Petite Poucette, mais je pense qu’ils sont généralisables à la collection de livres.

The book has a hardcover: that is easier to hold it.
La couverture est cartonnée, ce qui rend la prise en main plus aisée.

Each double-page spread has about 75%/80% of illustration and 25%/20% of text. The illustrations have pastel tones, they are not aggressive.
Sur chaque double page, l’illustration couvre environ 75% à 80% de l’espace et le reste correspond au texte. Les illustrations sont dans des tons pastel, elles ne sont pas du tout aggressantes.

Texts are simple. There is no detailed description because the illustrations have to play their part. I completely understand it because the whole story has to be finished in 30 pages. I just regret there is not the famous French sentence “Tire la chevillette et la bobinette cherra” that appears in Charles Perrault’s adaptation. I like it because it gave me a hard time when I wrote dictée exercices >.<

Les textes sont simples : on n’entre jamais dans de la description détaillée puisque les illustrations ont justement leur rôle à jouer. Je comprends tout à fait cela car il faut tenir en 30 pages, et donc aller à l’essentiel. Je regrette malgré tout l’absence du célèbre “Tire la chevillette et la bobinette cherra” de Charles Perrault qui m’a terrorisé lors de dictées

To conclude… pour conclure…
I was used to Disney’s design for this tales and it is funny for me to rediscover them with POP’s style: the books are really pleasant to watch. Of course this kind of book is for children: with these books, you can tell them a story before sleeping, and they can learn English. People can also buy Japanese books to learn Japanese. I am not (yet) in those cases and right now it is a kind of “artbook”.
I do not know yet if I will buy all the books of the  series but I am interested in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland because when I was a child I watched several times the animation movie made by Disney studio and I had a book translated from Lewis Carroll’s work.

J’étais habitué au design de l’univers Disney pour ces contes, et je trouve très amusant de les redécouvrir à la sauce POP : c’est très agréable à regarder. Ce genre de livre illustré bien évidemment est destiné en premier lieu aux enfants : on pourrait les lire pour raconter une histoire avant de dormir… en traduisant en français. Ils peuvent être utilisés pour l’apprentissage de l’anglais… tout comme les versions originales pourraient être utilisées lors de l’apprentissage du japonais. N’étant dans aucun de ces cas, je conserve ces livres pour le moment comme “artbook”.
Je ne sais pas si j’achèterai tous les livres de la série, mais celui d’Alice aux pays de Merveilles m’intéresse car j’ai beaucoup vu le dessin animé des studios Disney et lu cette histoire :  j’avais un livre (roman) de Lewis Carroll dans mon enfance.
J’en profite aussi pour souhaiter un joyeux Noël à ceux qui auront lu jusqu’ici

Avant d’éventuellement faire une review sur une figurine de KnK, je voulais en fait “réviser” pour appréhender les personnages. J’ai donc voulu voir ou revoir les films.
J’avais déjà vu les 3 premiers films à l’époque… et je les ai revus, puis j’ai continué avec les 4ème et 5ème films : un film par soir
J’ai trouvé l’ensemble excellent et je suis devenu un KnK fanboy =3 Voici donc mes impressions pour vous pousser à les visionner. Comme à mon habitude, je vais donner des détails triviaux sur l’intrigue afin de ne pas la révéler, et je vais plutôt insister sur mon ressenti.

Before maybe writing a review of a figure of KnK, I wanted to study the basis. So I watched again the first movies (1, 2 and 3) and I watched the 4th and the 5th: a movie an evening =)
I loved the movie series and I became a KnK fanboy I will give in this article my personal feelings about it. Maybe I will make you wanna watch them Don’t worry I am not spoiling.

Fantastique, un thème que j’aime bien pour les animes
Fantasy… that’s a genre that I like for animes.

Public |audience:
Je le déconseillerais aux -12 ans car les films contiennent des images qui sont parfois difficile à supporter (beaucoup de sang), et je ne veux pas de remake de Scream à l’école, hein ! Plus sérieusement, je pense qu’il faut une expérience “mature” en anime pour apprécier : si vous n’aimez que regarder Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, vous pourriez trouver ça lent et long.
I would rate it PG-13 as the movies contain images that may be harsh (a lot of blood). So many kids played with knifes after having seen Scream. That should be avoided with KnK! More seriously, I think a “mature experience” in anime is required to appreciate them: if you only like stuffs like Bleach, Naruto or One Piece, you could feel KnK is slow and long.

I will introduce only 2 characters because I want to let you the pleasure to discover the others by watching the movies.

Shiki Ryōgi

Shiki est dotée de MEoDP (Mystic Eyes of Death Perception), des yeux qui permettent de voir les “lignes de la Mort”. Chaque corps possède intrinsèquement ces lignes suivant sa structure molléculaire et trancher ces lignes entraîne la destruction dudit corps.
Shiki sees with the MEoDP (Mystic Eyes of Death Perception). She can see “death lines”. In fact everything has death lines and cutting them destroys the item.

Shiki utilise un couteau pour couper les lignes de la mort. Ses pupilles deviennent plus jolie lorsqu’elle utilise le MEoDP =3

Mikiya Kokutō

Mikiya est le héros masculin, l’équivalent de Shiki Tohno dans Tsukihime ou Shirou Emiya dans F/SN si on reste dans le Nasuverse. Son nom, ne vous rappelle-t-il pas celui d’un poète français? Moi, si Si après avoir vu les films, vous n’avez toujours pas trouvé, demandez-moi la réponse
Vous avez détesté Shirou parce qu’il ne se bougeait pas le cul pour s’entraîner à la magie? Vous étiez exaspéré par Shiki Tohno qui avait peur de son MEoDP? N’ayez crainte pour Mikiya… il n’a pas de pouvoir particulier xD
Si KnK était un Visual Novel, c’est bien entendu lui que l’on jouerait.
Mikiya is the male main character: he’’s like Shiki Tohno in Tsukihime or Shirou Emiya in F/SN. His name should remind you the name of a French poet, shouldn’t it? I know who’s this poet. I hope you will find out it too after having watched the movies.
Did you hate Shirou because he didn’t want to train his magical powers? Were you annoyed because Shiki Tohno feared his own power? Don’t worry with Mikiya… he doesn’t have any special ability

L’histoire du film 1 (sans spoil) |Movie 1: Synopsis (no spoil)
Shiki fait partie d’une sorte d’agence de détective qui s’occupe d’affaires traitant de phénomènes anormaux. Ce premier film nous plonge directement dans une enquête de suicides inexpliqués et nous permet de découvrir les protagonistes. On a l’impression de prendre le train en route et c’est bien le cas, mais tout ce qui semble obscur s’éclaircit par la suite que ce soit dans le film ou dans les films suivants.
Shiki is a member of a kind of detective agency that is in charge of strange cases. In the first movie,  several suicides have to be explained. So we’re going to know the main characters in the same time. We’ve got the feeling to jump on the bandwagon, because we’re really jumping on the bandwagon, but do not worry: everything get clear by seeing the rest of the movie or the other movies.

En guise de pub pour nos séances, nous avons droit à une introduction avec des personnages du Nasuverse en pâte à modeler. Ils sont mis en scène dans une salle de cinéma et nous rappellent des petites choses comme couper son keitai avant le film
C’est un coup à faire acheter les nendoroids… ah, vous les avez déjà achetées ? Nous sommes tous faibles >.<
To introduce the movies, there are a video with Nasuverse’s characters made of moulded plasticine modelling clay. They are in a cinema and remind us to have a proper behavior (eg switch off the keitai).
It is something that make us wanna buy the nendoroids… oh you’ve already bought them? We’re so weak >_<

Impressions visuelles Animation/Graphiquement | Art / Animation.
Ceux qui s’attendent à beaucoup d’action seront déçus. Ce sont des films d’ambiance: il faut apprécier les graphismes, les couleurs, la musique. On a de longs plans fixes et j’avais même cru à un moment que mon PC avait planté lol. Ce n’est pas du Shinkai Makoto non plus , il y a bien des scènes de combat excellemment réalisées, mais ce n’est pas ce qu’il y a de plus important. Il faut apprécier la façon dont l’histoire progresse : il y a parfois beaucoup de dialogues -> il faut essayer de faire un choix judicieux pour la team de fansub (la licence pour ces films n’est pas encore acquise en France).

People who want to see action will be disappointed. For this kind of movies, you have to appreciate the general atmosphere: enjoy the graphics, the colors, the music. There are slow views focused on the landscapes… sometimes, it was so long that I thought my PC freezed lol. It is not totally like Shinkai Makoto’s movies because there are indeed very well made fights, but battles are not the main interest. The way the story is revealed has to be enjoyed: there are sometimes a lot of talks. So the translation is an important point.

Je fais une petite parenthèse pour le film 5 qui sort un peu du lot. En effet, il est visuellement différent. Parfois, on a l’impression que c’est mal dessiné, mais je trouve que ça contraste avec les autres films. Graphiquement, cela m’a rappelé les textures comme dans Gankutsuou.
Pour ceux qui on vu le film 5: j’ai l’impression que les scènes “mal dessinées” sont réservées à celles dans l’immeuble. Elles accentuent un sentiment désagréable : en effet, les protagonistes ressentent une atmosphère pesante (la couleur rouge ne met pas à l’aise) et nous aussi.
On a des plans de vue tels que lorsque quelqu’un ouvre une porte, c’est ensuite une autre personne que l’on suit.

I will also deal exclusively with the 5th movie because it is apart, it’s visually different. Sometimes we’ve got the feeling it’s not perfectly drawn but it changed from the other movies. It reminded me Gankutsuou’s textures.
For people who already watched the 5th movie: I guess that this “not well drawn” scenes are used to give an unpleasant feeling while we’re watching the building. Indeed, people who are in this building feel a heavy atmosphere (with the red color), so it’s a way to make us feel it.
I also liked the way we switch characters view just by closing/opening a door.

BGM.
Les musiques sont de Yuki Kajiura \o/ Pour être plus précis, le projet Kalafina a été créé pour réaliser les thèmes des films de Kara no Kyoukai. Il s’agit d’un groupe de 3 chanteuses (au début 2, puis 4, et enfin 3 chanteuses). C’est bien du “Yuki Kajiura”: ces thèmes nous rappellent Canta per me et cie. Mes thèmes préférés sont oblivious (générique de fin du 1er film) et sprinter (générique de fin du 5ème film). J’ai d’ailleurs commandé l’album Seventh Heaven en édition limitée, j’ai hâte de le recevoir ^.^
The BGM are composed by Yuki Kajiura \o/ to be more exact, the Kalafina project has been launched to make the songs of Kara no Kyoukai. There are 3 singers (2 at the beginning, then 4, and finally 3 singers). Yuki Kajiura’s style is easily recognizable: some songs sound like Canta per me or other themes. My favorite songs are sprinter (end theme of the 5th movie) and oblivious (end theme of the 1st movie). I also ordered Kalafina’s album: Seventh Heaven (Limited edition). I hope I will receive it very soon.

En ce qui concerne les effets sonores, je n’ai rien remarqué de spécial : lorsqu’il pleut, on a bien un son de pluie, lorsqu’un verrou s’ouvre, on a bien un son pour le dispositif… au final, on reste cohérent.
Regarding sound effects, I didn’t notice anything special. When it rains there is the rain sound, when someone unlocks a door there is the device sound…

La chronologie | Chronology
L’ensemble des films ne suit pas une chronologie simple : on pourrait la comparer à l’ordre de diffusion au Japon de Suzumiya Haruhi no yūutsu… mais ça n’est pas aussi “violent”, chaque film correspond malgré tout à un chapitre du roman, il y a une certaine unité dans l’histoire d’un film.
Ce chapitrage permet d’avoir des explications par la suite “ah oui, c’est pour ça !” J’aime beaucoup ^_^
La chronologie du film 5 a aussi sa particularité : tout le film est réalisé en apparaissant comme un fragment de mémoire. Il y a ainsi beaucoup de flashbacks et de flashforwards. Il faut rester en alerte pour comprendre tout dès le premier visionnage

The movies do not follow a chronological order: it is a bit like the broadcasting order in Japan of Suzumiya Haruhi no yūutsu but it’s softer Each movie tell the story of a chapter of the light novel, there is a kind of unity within. We can often think “Oh that was that!” … it’s nice to understand what wasn’t clear before.
The chronology of the 5th movie has also something special: the whole movie is made like if we were watching pieces of memory. There is a lot of flashbacks and flashforwards. I have to be careful all the time to understand

Conclusion
Cette série de films constitue un véritable chef d’oeuvre. J’ai vraiment apprécié, et pourtant, lorsque j’avais vu les 3 premiers films, je ne les avais pas trouvé transcendants au point de ne noter le premier film qu’à 6/10 sur MAL. Comment l’expliquer ? Peut-être n’étais-je pas assez “mature” ? Il faut dire que je venais également de terminer de voir des animes qui m’ont moyennement marqués : Canaan (décevant) et K-On! (très bon pour son genre, mais assez simple au final au niveau de l’histoire).
J’ai en fait particulièrement apprécié le charadesign de Takeuchi (TM fan inside) et l’ambiance avec le son de Yuki Kajiura.
Dommage qu’il n’y ait pas de licence acquise en France, j’aurais acheté les DVD =3 Pas par simple fanboyisme, mais également de l’importance de la traduction que j’ai évoquée.

This movie series is really a masterpiece. I had pleasure to watch them… and yet, when I saw the first movies for the first time, I rated only 6/10 for the movie 1 on MAL. How can it be explained? Maybe my experience in anime wasn’t yet “mature”? I must say that I had just finished to watch so-so animes: Canaan (disappointing) and K-on! (very good for its genre but the story is so simple).
I appreciated more particularly Takeuchi’s charadesign and the whole mysterious atmosphere (with Yuki Kajiura’s music).
I would have liked to buy DVD but there is no licence in France. I want to buy not only because of fanboyism but as I said it, the translation is important and an official version would have been welcome.

Hi (Kamen) Readers !
With a such titel maybe I could have been dealing with the “Nanoha STAND BY ready” figure. But that’s not the case.
I decided to take a break with this blog for several personal reasons. I wish you had fun on reading the articles that I already wrote (Chuck Norris, Aubade, etc…): as I’m concerned I had fun again by rereading them a bit when I was closing trackbacks, pingbacks and comments on my previous posts. That’s why I will let online the whole content of the blog.
To tell you the truth I don’t know how long will last this break or if I will write again anything on this blog… but let’s be optimistic.

Firstly planed in June 2009, delayed in August 2009… Saber Lily by Good Smile Company was finally truly available in late September 2009 in the Japanese Archipelago. I got mine last week \o/

Where does Saber Lily come from ?

Saber Lily
Saber Lily is an extra costume that Capcom made up for the video game Fate/Unlmited Code (I wrote some lines about this game right there). If you want to play with her, you will have to unlock her… but don’t worry it’s easier than unlocking Miku’s swimsuit (Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA). This outfit is really different from the usual armored Saber: we’ve got the feeling to rediscover the character. According to the name, the design is inspired by a lily: the shape of her dress reminds us the petals of lily.

Nonetheless this new version has the same protections as the classical Saber: she wears a breastplate, gauntlets, greaves, and protecting stips that are attached on a waist belt.
The nudity of her shoulder and her back makes her much sexier

Distant Avalon
In the video game Saber Lily has exactly the same moves as Saber, de facto she’s got the same noble phantasms (super moves)… especially Avalon. In the move list of my PSP, it’s written “Avalon : the everdistant utopia” but it seems that the manufacturers shortened it with “Distant Avalon”… I will shorten more with “Avalon”
In fact Avalon is a counter. In fight video games, counters are defensive moves: if you hit your opponent while he’s doint a counter, your won’t lower his lifebar… on the contrary, he will strikes back. Baiken of Guilty Gear is a good example a such defensive way of playing.
In Fate/Unlimited codes, when Saber does the Avalon noble phantasm, she makes appear Avalon the scabbard of Excalibur… right after that, if you hit the scabbard by mistake or by unluck, a blinding light will come from Avalon and then Saber will hit you with Excalibur

It’s finally easier to understand by watching a video: on this vid of a-cho qualification at 8min40 (you can directly watch it using the scroll bar if you do not like Gilgamesh ), Saber succeeds in doing the Avalon ^_^
For me it was really important to undestand that because when I saw the first time the prototype, I did not understand why the scabbard was levitating this way… I even thought it was ugly and I was wondering why Saber wasn’t holding the scabbard in her hand like if she had just unsheathed her sword. Since I understood this super move, I really like this scabbard: it reminds me the Saber says “Abalone” and “Ekusu… kaliba!”

The box is big: 27.4 cm x 27.3 cm x 21.8 cm. Nevertheless it is smaller than some boxes of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS figures by Alter. The 2 vertical front edges have drawn my attention because they are beveled. It is the first time I see beveled edges on a figure box
The box is decorated with golden lines that are similar to engraved details on Avalon the scabbard of Excalibur. It has 4 windows: 1 front window, 2 side-windows and 1 above. The main colors are blue and silver. In fact the blue color has been used by the kings in France (the blue color on the French flag should symbolized the kingdom). There is also a Fleur-de-lis under the name written on the front face of the box: the Fleur de Lys was also used by French kings. All this details about the kingdom reminded me that Saber is Arturia Pendragon inspired by King Arthur.

The cardboard of the box is thick like Shuraki’s boxes, on the contrary to the boxes of some GSC products : Nendoroids, Hatsune Miku, etc. Most of times the windows “weaken” the box, but the thick cardboard makes that this windows do not influence so much the box structure. So you can put this box at the bottom if you use to stack up your boxes to keep them

The content
The figure was really well-protected: it is the first time that I see bubble wrap inside the thermoformed blisters. Ok, we don’t care about bubble wrap the most important is
- Saber Lily’s figure,
- the customized base,
- Caliburn, the thin sword,
- Excalibur, the big sword,
- Avalon the scabbard of Excalibur and
- an additional hand to hold Avalon.

Note that the pommels of both swords can be removed in order to place the hilt in Saber’s right hand. Avalon is attached on the additional hand with a square part without any poka yoke: there is 4 possibilities for assembling.

The figure.

The base
Let’s start with the base because Saber can not stand without it, on the contrary to Kallen Bunny girl. It has an elliptic shape: the lengh of the major axe is about 2a=225mm and the minor’s one 2b=155mm… you can right now calculate the area The chessboard of the hall of Einzbern castle has been chosen to customize the base: some of parts of the tile start to crack and there is a zone that has been completely burnt… well, Archer and Berserker! Come to fix what you’ve broken!
In comparison with the prototype, the logo of the video game Fate/Unlimited codes has been added. I would have liked it to be removable in order to have the choice “with or without the logo”… it does not matter so much because it is really well-made

Stances
Saber Lily has a very dynamic stance: it’s a fighting stance, she is going to hit with her sword in her right hand… oh, by the way there are 5 configurations for this hand! No, I am not mad, here are my explanations: of course there are Caliburn and Excalibur, and it is also possible to invert the direction of the hilt in the hand. This way the blade is behind Saber’s back. The last possibility is to let the right hand empty! Do you remember? xD According to my memories Shirou has not completely invocated Saber, that’s why her sword is invisible at the beginning. According to the visual novel, Saber is hiding her blade in order to not let opponents know the real length of her sword. Anyway it is also the case in the video game Fate/Unlimited codes
If you like to mix series, why not grab another sword from another figure? e.g. “Laevatein” of Signum by Alter *-)

As said above, there is an additional left hand to hold Avalon. In my opinion, “with or without Avalon” changes a lot the look of the figure. Without the scabbard, Saber looks like going to shot a topspin like Federer. With the scabbard I’ve got another script on my mind: Saber makes Avalon appear and uses it as a shield, and then her right hand is going to quickly strike back… it’s finally a bit similar to the noble phantasm that I described above but the time to strike back is longer in the video game: that’s probably the time to blind the opponent
By the way there is not only 2 possibilities for this left hand… there are 7 ones! No, I am not an illusionist. Listen up: 1 possibility for the empty hand, 4 for attaching Avalon on the extra hand… and 2 for sheathing Excalibur in Avalon (I do not account the 2 positions where Avalon is turned upside down because Excalibur would fall by gravity). Neither will I take into account the 2 possibilities where Avalon is empty and upside down because it is ugly: noone is going display the figure like this

Avalon can be held vertically.

What’s on the bill? 5 choices for the right hand and 5 for the left hand. But some choices are incompatible because if Saber has Excalibur in her right hand, Excalibur can not be sheathed in Avalon in the same time… unless doing an astral projection like Prue Halliwell.
Number of possibilities n = 5 x 3 + 3 x 2 = 21.
I was right to rename this paragraph “Stances” with an S, wasn’t I? ^.^

I have thought of holding the scabbard vertically ’cause it is held like this in Fate/UC. I also like when Avalon is put aside like on the official shots and the “Einzbern Forest” picture above: the sword and the scabbard are lined up.
For my part at the beginning, when I saw the pictures of the prototype, I prefered Caliburn in the right hand and nothing in the left hand, because I had a feeling of lightness: Saber looks like very winged. Then after having understood the noble phantasm of F/UC, I guess I prefer Excalibur in the right hand and Avalon in front of the left hand: on the one hand Excalibur is bigger than Caliburn and gives me the feeling the hit will do more damages, and on the other hand, Avalon is used as a shield and not to unsheathe like I thought before.

Quality / details
The figure is very detailled I took notice of the ahoge, the beautiful green eyes, engraved details on Avalon and the swords… and of course the motif of the master’s command spell is on the breastplate. There also are the black knots that tighten the sleeves, etc, etc, etc.

The dress is made of 4 real “PVC layers” : a white fabric… kind of underwear, the Lilium dress with petals, a transparent lace and the armor… It is very faithful to Saber Lily’s design (see artworks above). The sculptor could have, for example, inlayed the lace into the Lilium dress in order to reduce the costs. That’s not the case \o/ And this outfit has has been sculpted with lot of fabric folds and painted with nice color gradations.
The attention to detail goes as far as the fold on her pantsu! If you place a mirror on the tile of the base, you will be able to enjoy it xD

The gauntlets are well-made: each finger protection looks like made of several metal parts.
And the ponytail is gorgeous too: each hair each streak is detailled. It is quite amazing.
Besides I guess that the heels are higher than the ones on the original artwork. Nevermind because I like high heels =)

At the end I will summarize by saying there is an excellent work for the sculpting and the painting, and a special care about details (I didn’t deal with all of the details, I let you notice them if you will get this figure).
Little disappointment: there are some marks like if some parts had been rubbed. I guess it could be because of the assembling: maybe the operator rubbed the ahoge on the shoulder while he/she was sticking the head on the neck. This marks are not always seeable: it depends on the angle of view.

Conclusion
Is she well worth the price? I guess yes and I would add “it’s worth it”. 100 euros is really expensive for a standart run figure. But I suppose that the licence of Fate/Unlimited codes is not costless because theoretically the 4 groups Type Moon, Cavia, Eighting and Capcom should receive money from the sells of this figure… and I’ve just remembered that the Saber Lion nendoroid (Fate/tiger colosseum) had a classical price, so my explanation can be wrong. Well, it’s just to say that the price is the single flaw
When I order a figure in Japan, there is sometimes a “gap” between the moment I pay and the moment I receive the parcel, someway my desire decreases: I am already waiting for other figures that I’ve ordered in the meanwhile. That was not the case for Saber Lily ~Distant Avalon: I always passionately desired this Holy Grail! ^_^
If you read some of my reviews, maybe you noticed that I care about the packaging and the base. For that points I am completely satisfied with what GSC did… I did not have this feelings since the time when I got the Shuraki’s figures (once again manufactured by GSC). I tried to imagine what does exactly the machine that folds the cardboard of the box to make the bevel. It’s been a while that I wasn’t so excited by a figure xD
In my opinion, Saber Lily will be the figure of the year 2009. It will be hard for her ’cause there are other great contestants: Black Rock Shooter by GSC, Yoko Bounty hunter by Alter, Moka Akashiya by Gift/GSC, etc… Anyway Saber Lily is one of my favorite figures! =)
I am already looking at the future by hopping that Saber ~The Promised Sword of Victory Excalibur by GSC (her prototype has been seen at the WF09S) won’t be canceled. But I can wait right now, because I have my Saber Lily

L’origine de Saber Lily (Fate/UC).

Saber Lily
Saber Lily est un costume alternatif de Saber (qu’il faut débloquer) dans le jeu de combat Fate/Unlimited codes (que j’ai présenté dans un précédent billet). Le costume est totalement différent dans les formes et on a l’impression de redécouvrir le personnage. Son design s’inspire de la fleur de lys, symbole de la famille royale (Saber est le roi Arthur). En effet, les pans de sa robe rappellent les pétales de la fleur. Ça n’est probablement pas évident pour les francophones, mais “Lily” est le terme anglais qui est notamment utilisé pour désigner le lys.

Toutefois, cette version alternative conserve les mêmes protections que Saber en armure : plastron, gantelets, jambières, et lamelles de protection fixées au niveau des hanches.
Je pense que la nudité au niveau de ses épaules et de son dos la rend plus sexy

Distant Avalon
Dans le jeu, Saber Lily a exactement les mêmes attaques que Saber, et de facto les mêmes noble phantasms, dont Avalon. Dans la liste de coups sur ma PSP, il est noté “Avalon : the everdistant utopia”, mais il semble que les éditeurs ont simplifié ce nom en “Distant Avalon”… et je raccourcirai encore avec seulement Avalon
Avalon est en fait un contre. Dans les jeux de combats, les contres sont des coups défensifs : si le joueur 1 attaque le joueur 2 alors que ce dernier réalise l’input pour faire un contre, le joueur 1 se prend une contre-attaque… je pense à Baiken de Guilty Gear dont les contres sont l’essence de son jeu.
Pour en revenir à Saber, lors de ce noble phantasm, elle fait apparaître Avalon, le fourreau. Si vous avez le malheur de donner un coup dans ce fourreau, un jet de lumière en jaillit pour vous aveugler, puis Saber vous assènera un coup d’Excalibur (un autre de ses noble phantasms).

C’est en fait plus facile de voir ça en vidéo : sur cette vidéo de qualification a-cho à 8min40 (les impatients peuvent avancer la lecture pour ne pas avoir à regarder toute la vidéo), Saber réussit à faire Avalon.
Pour moi, c’est important car à l’époque où j’avais vu le prototype, je ne comprenais pas pourquoi on faisait léviter Avalon le fourreau. Je trouvais même cela un peu moche et me demandais pourquoi Saber ne tenait pas tout simplement le fourreau dans sa main gauche comme si elle venait de dégainer. Depuis, je préfère avoir le fourreau : j’entends la voix de Saber crier “Abalone”… puis “Ekusu… kaliba!” ^.^

Le packaging , le contenu.

La boiboite.
La boîte est volumineuse : 27,4 cm x 27,3 cm x 21,8 cm. Elle reste malgré cela moins grosse que les boîtes de certaines figurines de Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS par Alter. J’ai été interpellé par les arrêtes latérales qui sont biseautées… c’est la première fois que j’vois ça pour la boîte d’une figurine.
La boîte est décorée par les motifs dorés qui rappellent les gravures sur Avalon, le fourreau d’Excalibur. Elle comporte 4 fenêtres (2 fenêtres latérales, 1 fenêtre frontale et une au-dessus). Deux couleurs dominantes : le bleu, la couleur des rois (on retrouve d’ailleurs une fleur de lys en dessous du nom) et l’argent en surface réfléchissante.

Le carton de la boîte est épais, aussi épais que celui des boîtes des figurines Shuraki, contrairement aux boîtes des Nendoroids, de Hatsune Miku GSC, … Les fenêtres qui fragilisent en général un peu les boîtes n’ont pas trop d’influence : vous pouvez donc rangez cette boîte au bas d’une pile

Le contenu
La figurine est vraiment très bien protégée : c’est la première fois que j’vois du papier bulle à l’intérieur des coques thermoformées. On retrouve donc
- la figurine de Saber Lily,
- son socle personnalisé,
- Caliburn, l’épée fine, plus ouvragée,
- Excalibur, l’épée plus massive,
- Avalon le fourreau d’Excalibur, et
- une main alternative à laquelle on fixe Avalon.

Notez que pour le montage, les pommeaux des épées peuvent être retirés pour faire glisser le manche dans la main droite de Saber. Avalon est fixé à la main alternative via une forme carrée sans détrompeur : il y a ainsi 4 possibilités d’assemblage.

La figurine.

Le socle
Commençons par le socle car la figurine ne tient pas sans lui, contrairement à Kallen Bunny girl. Il est de forme elliptique : le grand axe fait approximativement 2a=225mm et le petit axe 2b=155mm… vous pouvez désormais calculez l’aire Le damier du hall du château d’Einzbern est représenté : certains carreaux commencent à craqueler tandis qu’une zone est carrément brûlée… bon, Archer et Berseker, vous allez réparer ce que vous avez cassé !
Par rapport au prototype, il y a le logo du jeu Fate/Unlimited codes qui a été ajouté. J’aurais bien aimé qu’il soit amovible pour qu’on ait le choix, mais il ne me dérange pas plus que ça car il est très bien réalisé

Poses
La pose est dynamique : c’est une pose de combat, Saber est en position pour asséner un coup d’épée… justement, pour la main droite, il y a 5 possibilités ! Vous seriez tentés de me rétorquer MER IL ET FOU, mais que nenni
Il y a donc bien évidemment Caliburn ou Excalibur… mais vous pouvez également positionner ces épées à l’envers de sorte à ce que la lame soit dans le dos de Saber. Ça fait 4 possibilités. La dernière à laquelle on ne pense pas forcément, c’est de ne rien mettre dans sa main eh oui rappelez-vous : Saber n’a pas complètement été invoquée par Shirou et son épée est tout d’abord invisible (c’est le cas dans Fate UC).
Ensuite si vous aimez mélanger les genres, pourquoi ne pas chercher une autre épée, par exemple “Laevatein” de Signum par Alter *-)

Excalibur à gauche et Caliburn à droite.

Pour la main gauche, il y a la possibilité de placer Avalon. Je trouve qu’il y a beaucoup de changement avec ou sans. Sans le fourreau, Saber est en pose pour faire un beau lifté à la Santoro. Avec le fourreau, j’ai un tout autre scénario en tête : Saber fait apparaître Avalon pour s’en servir comme bouclier et sa main droite va contre-attaquer rapidement… au final, il s’agit du noble phantasm décrit quelques paragraphes plus haut mais le temps de contre-attaque y est plus long dans le jeu vidéo ; il faut bien le temps que l’adversaire soit ébloui
Il n’y a pas que deux possibilités pour la main gauche… mais 7 ! Non, non, je ne suis pas prestidigitateur, lisez donc :
la main sans Avalon, les 4 configurations d’attache d’Avalon à la main prévue… et 2 configurations où l’on peut glisser Excalibur dans Avalon (j’ai retiré les positions où Avalon est à l’envers car Exalibur tomberait par gravité). Je vais quand même retirer 2 possibilités où Avalon est seul et à l’envers car je pense que personne n’exposera sa figurine ainsi pour des raisons d’esthétique

Avalon peut être positionné verticalement.

En faisant les comptes, nous avons : 5 choix pour la main droite et 5 pour la main gauche. Certains choix ne sont pas compatibles car si vous avez mis Excalibur dans la main droite, il ne peut pas être dans le fourreau en même temps… à moins d’avoir le don d’ubiquité comme Prue Halliwell.
Nombre de possibilités n = 5 x 3 + 3 x 2 = 21.
J’ai bien fait de (re)nommer cette partie “Poses” avec un S, hein ? ^.^

Personnellement, j’ai tout de suite pensé à mettre le fourreau de façon verticale car c’est comme ça que le coup Avalon est réalisé dans le jeu vidéo. J’aime également lorsqu’Avalon est en biais comme sur les photos officielles et la photo “Einzbern Forest” ci-dessus : l’épée et le fourreau réalise une ligne.
Au départ (quand je regardais les photos du proto), je préférais Caliburn en main droite et la main gauche simple, ce qui donne une impression de légèreté, de vivacité au combat. En ayant compris le noble phantasm du jeu vidéo, je préfère désormais Excalibur en main droite et Avalon positionné verticalement à la main gauche : d’une part, Excalibur plus massive que Caliburn me donne le sentiment que le coup porté sera dévastateur et d’autre part, Avalon est utilisé comme bouclier, et non pas pour dégainer comme je le pensais.

Qualité / finitions
Les détails sont au rendez-vous. On retrouve ainsi l’ahoge, les beaux yeux verts, les gravures sur les épées et Avalon… et bien évidemment le symbole d’invocation de Saber sur le plastron. Les noeuds noirs qui nouent les manches sont bien là eux aussi, etc, etc, etc.

On nous comble car au niveau de la robe, il y a 4 vraies couches de PVC : un bas blanc, la robe “fleur de lys”, une dentelle transparente et l’armure… C’est très fidèle au design de Saber Lily (les artworks ci-dessus). On aurait pu par exemple pour simplifier la fabrication et réduire les coûts, incruster la couche de dentelle dans la robe. Ça n’est pas le cas, tant mieux \o/ Cet ensemble comporte de nombreux plis et des variations de couleur suivant les plis.
On a également le droit au luxe si on veut ajouter un miroir sur le carrelage du socle : le détail va jusqu’au pli sur la culotte !

Les gantelets sont très bien finis : chaque doigt a un relief comme si plusieurs parties constituaient la protection du doigt, ce qui est probablement le cas.
La queue de cheval est détaillée cheveux par cheveux mèche par mèche. C’est très impressionnant.
Je trouve que les talons sont un peu plus haut que l’artwork d’origine, mais j’aime bien =)

Bref, un excellent travail de sculpture et de peinture et un souci des détails impressionnant.
Petit bémol : j’ai quelques traces comme si certaines parties avaient été frottées. Je pense que c’est dû à l’assemblage : par exemple lorsqu’il a fallu coller la tête sur le cou, peut-être que l’opérateur (ou opératrice) a fait frotter légèrement l’ahoge sur l’épaule. Ces traces ne sont pas flagrantes : elles sont visibles par réflexion (donc uniquement suivant l’incidence sous laquelle je regarde).

Conclusion
Vaut-elle son prix ? Je dirais plutôt qu’elle vaut le coup 100 euros, c’est cher pour une figurine d’un tirage normal/ standard. J’aurais bien voulu payer 20 euros de moins. Mais je suppose que l’exploitation de la licence Fate/Unlimited codes a son prix car le nombre d’ayants droit est de 4 : Type Moon, Cavia, Eighting et Capcom… quoique la nendoroid de Saber Lion (Fate/tiger colosseum) avait un prix d’origine classique pour une nendoroid. Le prix est ainsi l’unique défaut
En général, lorsque je commande une figurine au Japon, il y a parfois un décalage d’intérêt entre le moment où je paie et le moment où je reçois le colis, la passion peut s’envoler. Au contraire, depuis que j’ai vu le proto de cette figurine de Saber Lily, je n’ai cessé de la désirer passionnément ^_^
Si vous avez parcouru certaines de mes reviews, vous avez peut-être remarqué que je donne une importance relative au packaging et au socle. GSC a su me satisfaire de ce côté-là. Je n’ai jamais autant apprécié un socle depuis les Shurakis =) De même pour la boîte, j’essaie de réfléchir à comment fonctionnerait une machine pour plier le carton avec un biseau ça faisait un petit bout de temps qu’une figurine ne m’avait pas mis en ébullition
Je pense que Saber Lily sera la figurine de l’année 2009, en concurrence avec d’autres excellentes productions : Black Rock Shooter de GSC, Yoko Bounty hunter d’Alter, Moka Akashiya de Gift/GSC, etc… C’est en tout cas une de mes figurines préférées.
Et je regarde déjà vers le futur en espérant que Saber ~The Promised Sword of Victory Excalibur par GSC dont le prototype a été vu au WF09S, ne sera pas annulée. Mais je peux bien patienter, ma Saber Lily m’y aide

Am I 1 year late to deal with this game today? Yes and no: it’s firstly an arcade game that was playable in June 2008 in Japan but the english version on PSP has just been released this month The game is only downloadable … on the PS store of course!
In fact the game had also a PS2 version that was released at the end of 2008 (the Figma figure of Saber Lily was sold with the limited version of the PS2 game). So this PSP is an adaptation of the PS2 version (like for most of the PSP games). I had never played this game before (I am still PS2less T.T) so I won’t be able to compare the different versions.

PS Store

Ai-je un an de retard à rédiger aujourd’hui un billet sur ce jeu ? Oui et non car le jeu est sorti en arcade en 2008 au Japon, mais la version européenne du portage sur PSP vient sortir ce mois-ci Le jeu est disponible uniquement en téléchargement en fichier BitTorrent sur le PS store pour une trentaine d’euros.
Le jeu a en fait été porté sur PS2 à la fin de l’année 2008 : comme beaucoup de titres PSP, cette version est le portage de la version PS2 (la version limitée était accompagnée de la figurine Figma de Saber Lily). Je n’ai personnellement ni joué à la version arcade, ni à la version PS2 (toujours sans PS2 T_T): je ne pourrai pas comparer avec les autres versions.

UN SUCCES ? SUCCESSFUL?
Je me méfie de ce genre de jeu de combat adapté (Naruto, Bleach, Saint Seiya, Kamen Rider, etc…): d’une part, c’est souvent dans un gameplay 3D alors que je préfère la 2D (Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, KOF), et d’autre part, je pense toujours que ces adaptations correspondent à l’exploitation d’une licence qui va trop loin.
C’était bel et bien le danger pour ce jeu. Que faut-il pour pouvoir rivaliser avec les titres qui n’ont plus rien à prouver (Tekken, Soulca, DOA, etc…) ? Type Moon semble avoir trouvé la solution : s’inspirer de doujin games (créés par des fans). ça a été le cas pour Melty Blood.
Il y avait en fait le doujin Fate/sword dance de Rapid Fire (2005). Les éditeurs ont finalement répondu à un besoin des fans qui existait déjà.
Ce qui m’a surpris le plus, c’est la présence de ce jeu au SBO (Tougeki – Super Battle Opera) 2009 : le SBO est, d’après moi, le plus grand tournoi de jeu vidéo de combat. Il y a même des DVD du tournoi qui sont vendus.
Je ne sais pas comment sont sélectionnés les jeux pour le SBO, est-ce la manne de Type Moon ? Un réel succès dans les salles d’arcade ? Je ne suis pas dans les hautes sphères pour le savoir.
On a en tout cas retrouvé des jeux issus de licences Type Moon aux derniers SBO :
Melty Blood: Act Cadenza en 2006, 2007 et 2008, puis Fate/unlimited codes en 2009.

I am always suspicious of this kind of adapted game (Naruto, Bleach, Saint Seiya, Kamen Rider, etc.). On one hand, they have often a 3D gameplay and I prefer 2D (Guilty Gear, Street Fighter, KOF) ; on the other hand, I can’t help thinking that those games come from the use of a licence that goes too far.
It was the risk for this game. What can compete with great games that have already proved themselves (Tekken, Soulca, DOA, etc.)? Seems like Type Moon found it: Taking inspiration from doujin games (made by fans). Melty Blood is one of these games.
Actually there were already a doujin Fate/Sword dance from Rapid Fire (2005). So editors have just met an existed need from the fans.
What strikes me the most was that this game attended the SBO 2009 (Tougeki – Super Battle Opera): In my opinion, the SBO is the most famous tournament for battle video games. Even DVDs of the tournament can be purchased.
I wonder what are the requirements to be able to take part in the SBO. Could it have been thanks to Type Moon’s influence? Or maybe the game had a great success in video arcades? I don’t have the connections to give an answer to that.
Anyway, some games from Type Moon licence were presented in the latest SBO: Melty Blood: Act Cadenza in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and Fate/unlimited codes in 2009.

LES PERSOS | THE CHARACTERS
Il y a des persos que je connaissais pas : Bazett, Luviagelita & Leysritt… normal puisque les persos proviennent de Fate/zero, Fate/stay night et Fate/hollow ataraxia… alors que je n’ai vu que l’anime Fate/stay night. Soit, pour débloquer les persos supplémentaires et les costumes supplémentaires, ça m’a pris moins d’une demi-heure (c’est pas comme le swimsuit de Miku à Project Diva).

Je voulais en fait débloquer le costume Saber Lily Mais ce n’est pas un perso en soi contrairement à Dark Saber (Saber Alter), c’est un costume alternatif de Saber (le même scénario lorsqu’on termine le jeu).
In fact I wanted to unlock first Saber Lily. But She’s finally not another character on the contrary to Dark Saber (Saber Alter): it’s just an extra Saber’s costume.

LE SYSTEME | THE SYSTEM
Il y a donc des combos, des furies (Noble Phantasms), des superfuries, des max modes, etc…
C’est un système de jeu classique pour un jeu de combat. On a aussi le shield (déjà présent dans MBAC). Je ne m’y attarderai pas car moi même, je n’ai pas vu en détail les spécificités propres du jeu mais vous pourrez trouver des infos ici et là.

There are combos, furies (Noble Phantasms), superfuries, max modes, etc… It’s a classical gamesystem for a fight game. There is the shield button too (it was in MBAC too). Well I won’t tell anything more about that ’cause I didn’t really study the whole system. You’ll be able to find more details here and there.

LES MODES DE JEU | THE GAME MODES

Là encore, c’est du classique.
Once again, it’s classical:

Arcade mode
Des séquences de dialogue ont été introduites, ce qui souligne un peu l’histoire (habituellement, la séquence histoire est à la fin du jeu lorsque l’on gagne).
Shorts sequences with dialogues have been inserted. This way it looks like a story on the contrary of many games where the story line is at the end after having beaten the boss.

VS CPU & VS 2P
C’est le mode pour faire des combat simples… contre l’ordinateur ou contre un autre joueur (en ad hoc). Il est très regrettable que le mode VS 2P ne soit pas un mode online pour jouer contre un adversaire à l’autre bout de la France (ou du monde). Toutefois, il serait possible de jouer avec online avec “XLink Kai”. Je n’ai pas essayé.
It’s the mode to do single fights against the computer or against another player (ad hoc). It’s regretful not to play online against people but it seems this function can be fulfil with “XLink Kai” (I did not try).

Spectate
On peut regarder l’ordinateur jouer… autant regarder sur youtube des vrais joueurs avec des vrais combos, du vrai mindgame, etc…
You can watch the CPU vs CPU … not really interesting. It’s better to watch a vid on Youtube with real players, with real combos, with real mindgame, etc…

Tutorial
Le tutoriel permet de s’appropier le système de jeu… d’où l’intérêt d’avoir la version US pour comprendre.
You can learn the system… that’s why it’s important to get the US version if you want to understand the text.

Missions
Chaque personnage à une série de missions qui lui est propre. Les missions que je préfère sont les “Style Combo” : réaliser l’enchaînement dans un certain timing me rappelle Project Diva

CONCLUSION
Archer a la classe… sinon, je définirais 2 types de joueurs (les 2 n’étant pas incompatibles) :
- les fans de Type Moon et FSN,
- les fans de jeu de combat.
Pour la 2ème catégorie, je recommande la PS2 pour un confort optimal (perso, j’suis quand même frustré de jouer avec la PSP alors que j’ai la Rolls-Royce du stick arcade aka le HRAP).
La version PSP a son intérêt dans la mesure où c’est la seule version traduite du jeu (le jeu était sorti en version japonaise sur PSP en juin 2009) : on peut comprendre les dialogues… d’ailleurs, les voix japonaises ont été conservées De fait, je dirais que la version PSP convient mieux aux fans qui voudront comprendre les histoires du mode arcade. Personnellement, j’aurais pu être les 2 mais aujourd’hui, je ne peux plus hélas de m’investir dans un jeu de combat comme auparavant (travailler les combos, et jouer un max pour appréhender les match ups): ça prend vraiment trop de temps (j’en ai l’expérience avec ma petite Len noob qui essayait de terroriser en vain sur le module online mbcaster de MBAC).
Avec ce jeu, j’ai pu découvrir l’origine de la figurine de Saber Lily de GSC qui sortira à la fin du mois. Je trouvais la figurine très belle et retourner aux sources en côtoyant l’univers d’origine me permettra de mieux l’apprécier et de l’aimer
Et vous, quel type de joueur êtes-vous ?

Archer is so cool !!! Otherwise I would say that there are 2 kinds of players (both are not incompatible):
- the fans of Type Moon and FSN,
- the fans of fighting games.
As a fighting games player I would prefer to play on PS2: it is more comfortable (I feel a bit frustrated to play on PSP while I’ve got the Rolls-Royce of the arcade sticks aka the HRAP).
This PSP is really interesting for all the textes that have been translated (the Japanese PSP version was released in June 2009). People who do not understand Japanese can understand the dialogues and the stories can be more interested. That is why I would say that this version is more for Type Moon’s fans. I personally could have been in both categories but right now I cannot put a lot of myself into a such game as before (practising combos, playing a lot to know the match-ups): because it takes a LOT of time T_T I know it ’cause I wanted to play MBAC after having played a lot GGXX.
Anyway with this game I was also able to understand where Saber Lily comes from… in fact I ordered the 1/6 scaled figure produced by Good Smile Company (it will be released at the end of this month). She’s really gorgeous and I guess I will appreciate it more by having done this “pilgrimage”

I received lately my MC (Myth Cloth) of Megrez Alberich. It was released in June, but I received mine in August It’s the latest MC that I got.

Name: Saint Cloth Myth Delta Star Megrez Alberich.

About the Saint Cloth Myth toy line.

I already wrote a page to explain this toy line… it was HTML code with some AJAX : click there to view it.

But now my opinion about this toy line changed: Bandai does not innovate enough (Bandai releases the same character with another color) and the characters who are released are supporting characters (everybody’s waiting for the bronze saints with their 1st cloth). So I grew bored. I chose to focus on some series (e.g. to get all the gold saints). I am not so found of this toyline as before.

About Megrez Alberich.

Megrez Alberich is the Delta star God warrior. He appears only in the Asgard chapter. He is a real villain! This way I appreciated his Machiavellian plans, the way he sadisticly laughs, etc…

The design of the “Delta robe” (the armor) is simple: there is no arabesque like gold saints or Marinas.

It must be said that the vintage toy of Alberich was not released in France when I was young… maybe it makes me desire it more xD

The box.

The toyline has 3 sizes for the box: small (15cm x 19.5cm x 9cm) for bronze saints, medium (19.5cm x 17cm x 10cm) for gold saints, marinas and god warriors, et big (25.5cm x 19.5cm x 14cm) for gods (e.g. Thanathos).

The box has a “book box” format: it is divided in two and can be opened like a book.

The Da Vinci Myth Code / Da Vinci Myth Cloth Code… what’s that? It’s the name that the fans (mainly Spanish and French fans) use to talk about the code on the box that says what will be the next figures. The runes do not only decorate the box, they also announce the future MC releases. At the beginning, I did not believed it ’cause sometimes the explanations were really complicated. Let’s take the box and turn it 90° anti-clockwise:

The upper line has: “Mizar Alcor Benetasch Duhbe”.
And the bottom line: “Merak Phekda Megrez Alioth”…

It is a bit hard because each letter has to be indentified: for example the O is written with an omega Ω, the Z with a psi Ψ, etc…

Acccording to people who decrypted the Da Vinci Myth Code for God warriors, the 2nd name of the 2nd line is the next to be released.
=> Phekda Thor is the God warrior who will be released after Alberich: it will be released at the end of the month !

the content.
The content is rather “light”… the content is the same as a Gold saint’s one (4,000yen), maybe less because the Delta robe protects less the body of character (so the parts of the armors are smaller). For this 1,000yen I hoped there were extra items like another face or others. Some people on MC forums wanted a 2nd hair with the blow of “Amethyst Shield” (it’s seeable on the video above).

The space is not missing in the box… inflation impacts God Warrior’s series too: Benetnasch Mime was sold at 4,500yen.

Anyway the box has a nice feature: it’s the famous “flame sword” that comes with a removable flame =3

There is classically a set of hands. There are also 2 belly-protectors: one is made of a shining hard plastic while the other is more flexible (ABS?). The instructions paper seems to explain how to use them but I don’t understand Japanese T_T if someone knows the difference, I am ready to listen to him

The figure with the armor.

The Delta Robe is really to dressed on the character… except for the mask. The leg protectors are in one part. There is not any part on the arm but only on the forearm: the simplicity of the armor made it easy to assemble.

The hardest is to assemble the mask with the hair because the mask gets tangled with the hair. For the moment, after having placed and removed, there was not any staying sequins on my fingers: the paint sticks well on the mask. I am quite satisfied with the sculpture of the hair: the end of the locks are like spikes… ouch

Like the figure of Rosanna by Movic, only one eye is seeable because the other one is hidden with hair: it’s the case on the original artwork. It has not been forgotten to paint the neck in white to make the collar.

Most of times, the possibilities of posing for MC are restricted by the armor. Alberich is not an exception. Nonetheless the shoulder-pads have a sliding part that can make them get longer.

I regret that it is not possible to do the first phase of the stance of the Amethyst Shield (when his arms are crossed)… but it works for the second phase when he opens his arms:

The Delta Robe / the totem.

On the contrary to the Epsilon Robe MC which is horrible, the Delta Robe MC looks very similar to the orginal artwork below. It can be explained by the fact that parts of Delta Robe have not to be too much deformed when changing its form.

The skulls of the Delta Robe are opaque and white on the artwork while the MC’s ones are translucent. It’s done to “create” the phosphorescent effect of this skulls in the anime.

Conclusion.

To end this review, I will emphasize again that the figure is rather faithful to the original. Its design is simple and efficient. If I had to keep only one God Warrior Myth Cloth, it will probably be Alberich.

In spite of this satisfaction about this figure, I am not reconciled with the MC toyline… until the Bronze Saints will be released maybe.

Besides I would say that it is not easy to take pictures of MC because the reflecting parts have to be managed: some areas on the armor are white on my pics T_T

A propos de la gamme Saint Cloth Myth.

J’avais à l’époque écrit une page pour présenter la gamme en code HTML avec un peu d’AJAX : cliquez ici pour voir.

Depuis ma vision sur cette gamme a changé : je trouve que Bandai n’innove pas assez (les différentes recolorisations par exemple) et que les personnages qui sont produits sont trop disparates (toute la planète attend les chevaliers de Bronze en 1ère armure) ; je me suis donc lassé. J’ai choisi de me focaliser sur certaines séries (avoir tous les chevaliers d’Or par exemple). Je ne suis plus ce fervent collectionneur de MC d’antan

A propos d’Alberich de Megrez.

Alberich de Megrez est le guerrier divin de Delta dans chapitre d’Asgard, un chapitre qui n’est pas issu du manga. Alberich est un méchant, un vrai : on apprécie ses plans machiavéliques et son rire sadique bien exprimé par Eric Legrand.

Le design de son armure est simple : pas d’arabesque comme les chevaliers d’or ou les Marinas.

La boîte.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas la gamme, il ya 3 formats de boîte : petite (15cm x 19.5cm x 9cm) pour les chevaliers de bronze, moyenne (19.5cm x 17cm x 10cm) pour les chevaliers d’or, marinas et guerriers divins, et grande (25.5cm x 19.5cm x 14cm) pour les divinités (ex : Thanathos).

Chaque boîte est sous format “book box” : la boîte est divisée en deux et peut s’ouvrir comme un livre.

Le Da Vinci Myth Code / Da Vinci Myth Cloth Code… késako ? Il s’agit du nom donné au code qui figure sur les boîtes annonçant le prochain personnage qui sortira. En effet, sous ses allures de ornements, les lettres grecques les runes (la série des guerriers divins a des inscriptions runes alors que les chevaliers d’Athéna avaient du grec) annoncent des prochaines sorties Myth Cloth. Je n’y croyais pas trop au début car le code pour l’annonce de Shina (qui a été annulée) me paraissait très tiré par les cheveux… Je reprends donc ma boîte en réalisant une rotation de 90° dans le sens trigonométrique :

Décodons la ligne du haut : “Mizar Alcor Benetasch Duhbe”.

Et la ligne du bas : “Merak Phekda Megrez Alioth”…

J’avoue que c’est très difficile au début, mais il faut savoir identifier chaque lettre : par exemple le O est représenté par un omega Ω, le Z par un psi Ψ, etc…

D’après les experts décrypteurs du Da Vinci Myth Code, le code pour la série des guerriers divins d’Asgard précise que “le 2ème nom de la 2ème ligne est le prochain à sortir”.

=> Thor de Phekda est bien le guerrier divin qui sera produit après Alberich… d’ailleurs, il sort à la fin du mois !

Le contenu.

Je trouve que c’est un contenu très léger… le contenu est le même que celui d’un chevalier d’or (4000 yens) si ce n’est moins (car l’amure d’Albérich protège moins le corps du personnage). Pour 1000 yens de plus, j’aurais espéré des extras tels qu’un visage alternatif plus expressif ou autres. Sur un forum dédié aux MC, un membre avait également désiré une 2ème chevelure lorsque l’attaque du cercueil d’Améthyste crée un souffle qui soulève ses cheveux (comme dans la vidéo du générique ci-dessus).

Les 2 blisters

On ne peut pas dire que c’est la place qui manque dans la boîte… cette inflation se fait même sentir au niveau de cette série des guerriers divins car Mime était à 4500 yens.

La boîte contient tout de même en tant que bonus notable une jolie épée flamboyante ainsi qu’une flamme optionnelle pouvant se placer autour.

On a classiquement un set de mains plus ou moins ouvertes. On nous dote de 2 protège-ventres : l’un est en plastique rigide brillant, et l’autre en un plastique plus souple (lamelle d’ABS?). La notice semble expliquer l’utilisation de l’un ou l’autre, mais je ne comprends pas le japonais Si quelqu’un a une explication, je suis tout ouïe

plusieurs mains, 2 protège-ventres… et la tête à Toto.

La figurine et son armure.

Le montage de l’armure sur le corps est aisé… sauf pour le casque. Les jambières ne sont pas en plusieurs parties. Il n’y a pas de partie qui recouvre les bras, mais uniquement les avant-bras : la simplicité de l’armure a impliqué la simplicité de montage.

Le casque est difficile à monter car il s’enchevêtre avec les cheveux d’Albérich. Pour l’instant, en l’ayant monté/démonté aucune paillette ne m’est resté entre les doigts : la peinture du casque tient pour le moment. Je suis content du travail de sculpture sur les cheveux : ils ne sont pas trop grossiers et les mèches se terminent en partie qui piquent… aïe

Comme Rosanna de Movic, un oeil d’Alberich est invisible car caché par la chevelure : c’est le cas pour le personnage d’origine. Il n’a pas été oublié de peindre la base du coup en blanc pour réalisé le col.

Pour les MC, les possibilités de poses sont en général restreintes par l’armure. Alberich ne fait pas exception. Toutefois les épaulettes comportent une partie coulissante qui permet ainsi de l’allonger de quelques millimètres.

J’ai quand même un petit regret pour la première phase de la pose du “Cercueil d’Améthyste” (où il croise les bras) que je n’ai pas réussi à réalisée… par contre ça passe pour la deuxième phase lorsqu’il écarte les bras :

L’armure / le totem / le socle.

Contrairement à la version socle de Fenril que je trouve horrible, celle d’Alberich est très proche de l’artwork d’origine. Cela peut s’expliquer par le fait que l’armure d’Albérich a moins à se déformer pour réaliser le totem.

Les crânes qui composent l’armure sont opaques et blancs sur l’artwork ci-dessous alors que ceux de la version MC sont translucides. Il semble que ce soit pour donner l’effet de leur phosphorescence dans l’anime.

Conclusion.

En guise de conclusion, je soulignerais que cette figurine est très fidèle. Son design est simple et efficace. Je vous avoue que si j’étais amené à ne garder qu’un seul guerrier divin en Myth Cloth, Alberich serait en bonne position.

Malgré cette satisfaction, je ne me “réconcilie” pas pour autant avec la gamme MC… dans l’attente des chevaliers de Bronze en première version.

Je dirais enfin qu’il n’est pas toujours facile de prendre des photos des Myth Cloth car il faut “gérer” les parties réfélchissantes : certaines zones de l’armure apparaissent totalement blanches
